Hebden Bridge

It has been at least a week from the last time I posted, which really is not good enough, bad me! However I have been spending time with family and friends etc. so it is a little more acceptable!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas period, and there is still New Year's Eve to come so the celebrations will still be going!!

I had my family up for a few days which included my two lovely little nieces which was a real treat over Christmas. We went on a walk to a little place called Hebden Bridge here in Yorkshire. If you watch the news then every time it floods Hebden Bridge is always featured as it floods so badly!
Anyway, here are 3 snaps I took whilst on our little walk.

Plenty more Christmas related posts coming in the next week or so, so keep your eyes peeled!

Lakeside Plants

My fourth and final post from Charnwood Water! It was such a good blog photo day! See my other posts from Charnwood Water here:

Anyway, usually I try to take a few photos from different angles for each subject, then pick which of those is my favourite to go on the blog. However this time it is different. I loved this plant so much that you get 3, yes THREE different angles of it! Wow! There are other plants here too like the ivy, but this one I have never seen before so I am showing it you now!

Arty Farty

I like to think that I am creative. I am a photographer, play the drums, taught myself guitar and I design for a living (once I get back to my job!). I also paint. So this post isn't going to be about the photography, infact that is pretty bad seen as it was really dark in my room, but about hte paintings and drawings that I have produced. As you may be able to tell, I love popart, and I especially love painting it, so the majority of my work is in that area. Most of these paintings I must admit I have taken from pictures on the internet, and then adapted them on a graphics program to be more what I wanted to do!

1. In my bedroom at home - A Woman
2. in my bedroom at home - A Car across 3 canvasses
3. In my living room at home - A 1 Metre Square Cow
4. In my bedroom at Loughborough - A Mini
5. In my bedroom at Loughborough - Lego Heads
6. Sketch - A Woman
7. Drawing - 2 pop art faces (still incomplete because I could not do his mouth no matter how hard I tried!)

lakeside scenes

Lakes really are great things to go and take photos of. Not just because of the things you find on a lake or around the lake, but because of the lake itself. If you get the light right you can really take some fantastic snaps, and water is so good for this! Especially in the winter with the foggy days and the grey skies, they can really add to the photos.

As my previous 2 posts (and most likely my next post), these are photos I have taken from Charnwood Water in Loughborough. Check out the other posts from the lake here:

Here are my scenic snaps from the lake:

Lakeside snaps

As I have said in my last post 'Swanning about', I recently went to a place called Charnwood Water here in Loughborough. It was basically for me to get away from my uni work which was driving me mad and to finally get out to take some photos! When I got there, there were loads of birds which got most of my attention, however I did manage to take some snaps of other things too!
Here are some of the snaps I caught:

1. One of the reservoir's life rings.
2. A rusting padlock.
3. A bar stopping cars from accessing the paths.
4. Birds on a roof waiting for the big birds to finish eating.
5. A couple ducks tucked away in the reeds.

Swanning about

Today I went to a reservoir called Charnwood Water over here in Loughborough as I am struggling with work so really needed a break. Just a ten minute drive from mine, I thought it would be perfect to just pop over and see what I could snap! When I got there I found that there were loads of birds!

Now birds for me have been notoriously difficult to photograph, and I knew it would be a challenge, but with there being so many I thought I had to give it a go. As I only have a reasonably short lens at the moment (14-42mm) I had to get pretty close to take a good photograph. Now those of you who know what swans are like, this was pretty scary! Swans have a nasty bite on them and if they hit you with their wings then they have enough power to break your arm! The things you go through to get a good photo! Anyway, off I went and crept as close as I could and took some photos, before they noticed me and started to walk angrily towards me! I did this quite a few times until I lost my nerve and went away to take some photos of other thinks around the reservoir. These will appear within this week as some more posts!

When I had taken another dose of 'Man-up' I went for a few more snaps of them! Here are the results of the day!

Just after being fed by some other passers by!

Headless swans!? I don't really like this photo too much as I think the green plant at the bottom kind of spoils it, but I took the chance with them all with their heads underwater to take this snap as it looked so strange!

I like this as you can see the water droplets on it's head and neck after diving under.

A couple more pics with just water in the background, nice and simple!

Keep your eye out for the other posts from the same day coming soon!

Sunset

I have just been so lucky and caught one of the best sunsets I have seen all year. I looked out of the window to see if the sun had fully set yet and saw this. It was amazing. Even though I'm still rough from two nights ago when I went out, I quickly put on my shoes and ran outside, knowing how quickly these things change and disappear.
I quickly marched to the end of the street to get the best view, snapping as I went. When I got there, there was even someone else there with their DSLR taking photos too! Both of us saying how amazing it was.
Winter really is the time that the sunsets come out (obviously they happen every day, but it's not the same) and make their mark but as the sun sets so early and so quickly it's really difficult to captrue a truly beautiful shot. As you can see from the photos the colours were changing even through the short time I was out there and ten minutes later it has gone.
It was truly stunning and I hope that through the rest of this winter I get to capture other ones just as good as this!

The first photo I have also entered into Saida Cane's Sweet Snaps competition, go have a look!

Macro at Home 3

This is definitely getting a LOT harder the more I do, and I'm only on number 3! There's only so much stuff you can have in one house that will make a good photo! Soon I will be home for christmas though so I can have a go round there to at least give me some more time before the next lot here! I've actually started making lists of things I could potentially shoot to make sure I don't forget any if I get some inspiration!

If you haven't seen my other Macro at Home posts then check them out here:

Macro at Home 2

So, here are this weeks installments!

1. My headphones. Yes they're pink inside.
2. Beeeerrrr. I've wanted to take this photo for quite a while now. I even cut open the box to have all the tops exposed. This however took me too long to take so I have drunk half of them already. oops. Plus I like the grainy-ness to it.
3. I have a £1 Christmas tree in my room. It's crappy and awful but it was a pound!
4. I know it's not halloween anymore, but my little ghost candle holders are still out as I have nowhere to put them!
5. More alcohol?! But seen as I will be drinking this tonight I thought it should be taken.
5. Tennis balls. Been sat on my shelf too long so they got a little outing to the floor before being returned to the shelf.
