The moon

There's something about seeing the moon in the daytime that's pretty special. Obviously at winter its possible quite often, but it's not often that the sky is clear enough to see it in all it's glory, and with a brilliant blue sky it looks great. Here are my favourite moon shots I took whilst on my adventure at Bradgate Park.

Both photos are pretty similar, just the location of the moon within the frame changes and obviously the scenery at the bottom, but I couldn't pick my favourite of the two. Taken just as dusk was arriving.

Which one is your favourite?

Sunset

I have just been so lucky and caught one of the best sunsets I have seen all year. I looked out of the window to see if the sun had fully set yet and saw this. It was amazing. Even though I'm still rough from two nights ago when I went out, I quickly put on my shoes and ran outside, knowing how quickly these things change and disappear.
I quickly marched to the end of the street to get the best view, snapping as I went. When I got there, there was even someone else there with their DSLR taking photos too! Both of us saying how amazing it was.
Winter really is the time that the sunsets come out (obviously they happen every day, but it's not the same) and make their mark but as the sun sets so early and so quickly it's really difficult to captrue a truly beautiful shot. As you can see from the photos the colours were changing even through the short time I was out there and ten minutes later it has gone.
It was truly stunning and I hope that through the rest of this winter I get to capture other ones just as good as this!

The first photo I have also entered into Saida Cane's Sweet Snaps competition, go have a look!

Beacon Hill

Here in Loughborough there is a hill called Beacon Hill, which at the top surprisingly has a beacon. Funnily enough back in Halifax, my home town, we also have a Beacon Hill! When my girlfriend came down to visit a couple of weeks ago I took her up there so we could attempt to take some photos!

Now for those of you who don't know, a beacon is a large basket on top of a pole which was lit when there was danger or for towns to communicate with each other. They're pretty old, but they are a part of the country's history so it's nice that they are still around. Unfortunately they aren't as cool as the ones you see in films like Lord of the Rings, but it's the same idea!

It was bitterly cold when we got to the top of the hillS so much so that we struggled to take photos as our fingers were so cold!

But here are some of the ones I managed to take!

Beautiful skies...

My little photography buddy...
On top of the hill is a small stone with this brass plate on top showing the different locations of towns and cities...

Amazing how some plants can retain such bright greens when others turn to brown...

This is part of a statue at the top of the hill carved out of wood...

And the beacon itself, told you it wasn't as impressive as in the films...

For some of these photos I used my Gorilla Pod, so don't forget to enter my competition where you can win one for yourself!
